About PEO Authority

Independent. Unbiased. Authoritative.

PEO Authority was built to give small business owners a trustworthy resource for navigating the Professional Employer Organization landscape.

Why we built this

Finding a PEO is harder than it should be. The industry is full of brokers with undisclosed financial relationships, directories that sell placement to the highest bidder, and review sites that cannot be verified. Small business owners searching for objective information often end up talking to salespeople before they have enough knowledge to evaluate their options.

PEO Authority was built to fix that. We provide independent, structured information about PEO companies — who they serve, what they offer, whether they are IRS-certified, and what size companies they work with — without hiding that information behind a sales process.

What makes us different

No paid placement
PEO companies cannot pay to appear higher in our directory or rankings. Our listings are ordered based on objective criteria — certification status, geographic coverage, and company size served.
Verified certification status
We cross-reference CPEO status against the official IRS public listings. Certified status is verified, not self-reported.
Independent and unbiased
There is no cost to search the directory, read our guides, or use our comparison tools. We are funded through referral arrangements that are clearly disclosed.
Editorial independence
Our content is written to help business owners make informed decisions — not to move them toward any particular provider. We cover the drawbacks of PEOs as honestly as we cover the benefits.

How we make money

When a business owner submits a quote request through PEO Authority and ultimately partners with a PEO, we may receive a referral fee from the broker or PEO involved. This is disclosed on every lead form and in our footer.

This commercial arrangement does not influence our directory listings, ratings, or editorial content. PEOs are not listed, ranked, or featured based on their participation in our referral program.

Our data

PEO data on this site is sourced from the IRS CPEO public listings, state labor department registration lists, direct outreach to PEO companies, and publicly available business information. We update our data regularly and provide a way to report errors on every company profile page.
